Kids’ Club Café

Kids’ Club Café project is implemented within the Amstelven Connect@ framework and aims to bring together an international group of young children (3-5 years old) living in Amstelveen (different nationalities, different social groups), elaborate a structured program of activities for them following the informal learning methodology to encourage children to open up, communicate and play together, learn and develop new skills, socialize and feel happy in society. The non-formal approach will let kids relax and enjoy the program and learning process.

The parents are also welcome to join the activities as it will let the children relax and quickly adapt to a new environment.

We want to create a nice environment for the international community of Amstelveen for integration into the social life of the community.

The activities will take place in Buurtkamer Keiser Kaerlpark (Lindenlaan 75, Amstelveen, Netherlands).

Participation is free of charge. Only preliminary registered children will be invited to the activities.

Event 1

The Netherlands is one of the most multinational countries in the EU. Major municipalities (like Amsterdam and Rotterdam) with 500.000+ inhabitants became home to 180+ different nationalities. It sounds fantastic until we look at the statistics of Amstelveen.

Amstelveen with only a little over 92k population is home to 139 nationalities. An unbelievable number, right?

But how do all those nationalities live side by side in our beloved Amstelveen? Do they have enough communication and socialization opportunities?

Thanks to the Municipality of Amstelveen with the Amstelveen Connect@ program, the volunteers of Solidarity Breage have started the KIds’ Cafe Initiative that aims to create a fun and non-formal environment for international parents with young children.

A lot of common topics for chitchatting for moms, interesting and engaging activities for kids, of course, moms are also welcome to join the games to cheer up kids and just for fun.

Event 2

Amstelveen is home to 139 nationalities. Approximately 20% of Amstelveen’s population does not speak Dutch, is not familiar with Dutch culture and society. Consequently, integration and socialization sometimes can be quite challenging.

Thanks to the Municipality of Amstelveen with the Amstelveen Connect@ program, our volunteers go on with the Kids’ Club Cafe initiative.

Within the Kids’ Club, kids get involved in different activities (games, crafts etc.), meet peers from other countries, including Dutch kids, learn the language and the culture.

At the same time, the parents spend time together, enjoy a cup of coffee/tea, socialize, as well as get acquainted with neighbors.

Event 4

Home to many nationalities, Amstelveen is a beautiful and green Dutch town, where everyone is always welcome. The community centers and the local government do their best to support newcomers and help them learn the Dutch language and culture.

Kids’ Club Cafee is one more opportunity for international children and their parents to see and get in touch with Dutch culture, to benefit from the opportunities offered by the governmental and non—non-governmental organizations in Amstelveen to socialize and build new networks in the city.
